Thekla, Saint
   According to legend, St. Paul converted Thekla in Ikonion (q.v.), after which she preached and gained great fame as a worker of miracles. By the fourth century her shrine at Meriamlik, near Seleukeia, in Isauria (qq.v.), was already a major pilgrim site. When Egeria (q.v.) visited it in 384, it had a church and monasteries, whose considerable wealth was protected from Isaurian raids by fortification walls.
